Coral and Blue

Image
Color combinations and color schemes can be tricky.  Just because you love two colors doesn't mean that you should put them together.  There are some great websites for helping with your color schemes if you're having a hard time finding an accent color to go with your current favorite hue. The websites can just give you color schemes right off, or you can choose your favorite color and it will show you possible accent colors to go with it.  It's a great tool to be aware of and we wanted to share them with you to help you out in this area if you struggle with it or ever find yourself at a loss! :) Colour Lovers Color Scheme Designer Kuler One of our favorite color combos right now is tangerine and blue... It's a fun and playful combo but still fresh and sophisticated. images via

Wood Shop

Image
We came across these wood vases and thought they'd be such a fun way to change up the traditional centerpiece for valentines day or your next event! Raw wood paired with narcissus and tulips gives the perfect balance of hard and soft.  It's always fun to throw a little twist in the mix and do something a little unexpected or out of the ordinary. These vases would be just a fabulous for a romantic dinner for two or a large event as part of centerpieces.  Versatility is so important when you choose to invest in pieces or containers for event decor, and these fit the bill perfectly! layout via Rue Magazine Find these and other wood products at  Haus Interiors  collaboration with David Stark:   WOOD SHOP .  WOOD SHOP will be open from the 3rd through the 27th.

Chanel Nails

Oh Chanel, you are so clever and classy. This video is so fun and energetic and it's such an interesting way to present their product.  Get creative about how you present things at your events, think outside the box and try something out of the ordinary. As for the colors, we love them all but Orange Fizz is our favorite pick.  Which one do speaks to you?

Feeling Inspired

Image
What is inspirational to you?  What gets your creative energy going and moves you to action? Right now, we are feeling very inspired by Nikolay Bojilov who won 2010 Triumph Inspiration Award for his work... Inspiration can come from anywhere and you can take it in any direction.  For example, a lot of this work is very linear so you could incorporate stripes or lines into your decor with linens or lighting or the way you arrange furniture or structural elements.  You could take the color combinations such as the beige with orange and celery green and use that as an inspiration for event decor or lighting.  The possibilities are endless-inspiration is just that, INSPIRING! You don't need to feel tied down to any one aspect or idea, let it take you places and create something new.  Hope this in some way inspires you as well!

Greens and Things

Image
We know that Spring does not officially start until March 20, but here in sunny southern California it feels very much like spring already at times :)  Spring is all about new life and growth and change, and what better represents those ideas than a growing plant?  Plants and herbs are a fun alternative centerpiece idea.

Weekend

Image
A thought about accent colors for tangerine tango: think pink.  Pink is a fun and peppy accent for orange/red hues because it's close enough to feel slightly dissonant while still working well together.  It's good to have a neutral color as well to help ground these two vibrant colors.  Taking a note from the above image, a slightly yellow cream color adds a nice dimension to the palette without going overboard. Just some food for thought. You have a good weekend and we'll see you Monday :)

Frisée, Tangerine, and Sesame Salad

Image
It can be fun and challenging to come up with dishes to serve at your event, be it big or small.  Food has just as much design, at times, as the decor and you can put as much care here as the environment.  It can be fun to take a que from your decor and incorporate some of the same colors or themes. For example, this year's color is tangerine so why not try a dish with the color orange in it? Here's a great light spring or summer salad recipe that looks beautiful as well as sounds delicious! It even has tangerine's in it, so you get both the color and the theme if your event is based around this year's color :) All you will need is: Zest from 1 tangerine   1 teaspoon   grated fresh ginger 3 tablespoons   fresh tangerine juice   2 tablespoons   vegetable oil   1/2 teaspoon   toasted sesame oil 3  tangerines, segmented   1/3 cup   thinly sliced red onion   2  small heads frisée, torn into bite-size pieces Salt   Toasted sesame seeds and pomegranate seed
