Frida Kahlo on the Cover of Vogue

Artist Frida Kahlo will appear on the cover of  Vogue  for the first time ever. Almost 60 years after her death, the photo of Frida, taken by photographer Nickolas Muray in 1939, will appear on the cover of Vogue Mexico ’s November 2012 issue. The magazine will hit newsstands just before the November 22 nd opening of   “ Appearances Can Be Deceiving: The Dresses of Frida Kahlo” at the Frida Kahlo Museum in Mexico City .  Frida Kahlo did appear once in the pages of U.S. Vogue , in the October, 1937 edition; but this is her first time on the iconic magazine’s cover. The collector’s edition of  Vogue  will feature a story about Kahlo’s exhibition, her unique style and her influence on designers like Jean Paul Gaultier and Comme des Garcons ’s Rei Kawakubo who have designed collections inspired by the incredible artist who certainly suffered for her art.   Born just before the Mexican revolution, Frida became the voice of modern Mexico, especially for women. Black and Gold Party

We were asked to design, manage and produce the  multiple day events providing evening entertainment and reception for  conference attendees at the Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel . The goal was to  create a look and feel that was different than what had been created in the  past several years at the same venue. This year the inspiration was to create a look that provided an indoor/ outdoor setting allowing a larger  area for the guests and working with a  large and upcoming trend of catering strictly with food trucks!  A clear structure tent was selected to  provide a feeling of openness. All existing trees that fell inside the tent  and outside were enhanced with lighting to provide an expansive indoor/ outdoor feel. Almost all openings of the tent on one end were left open to  eliminate the barrier & division of space making the entire 25,000 square  ft. space feel as one.
